the first day of uni & my photo album & three second rule doesn't exist

Apparently.

Mythbusters did a segment on this, and the minute the food hits the surface, it's contaminated! Bad news for me cause i'm one of those people who picks up the gummi bear off the table, pop it in my mouth and say "still good!"

you can access my flickr photo album by clicking on the link in the sidebar. you can also comment on the photos. i can only upload about 20MB a month, and i've already exceeded that, but expect more photos soon!

the first day of uni was awesome. it was good to just see everyone again, and cinematic cultures wasn't too bad. deffffffffinetly better than power & change!

legal advice

If someone uses your name without permission to endorse an event does it give you grounds to sue them/make them do push-ups?

Because ...

Subject : Donna wants you to dance [*]

Don't let Donna down! Just minutes ago, she was saying to me:

(Donna) says:
i'll see if I can make it, it sounds fun

(Donna) says:
yeah, get more people out it'll be fun

Come to 90's night! Don't let Donna down!

It also happens to be Spa's birthday. If you do not come, she will become sad and weepy after a few beers and ruin the shoulder of my new top with bitter tears.
Don't let Sophia down!

Also, if you happen to be feeling down or grumchy, dancing and gal pals will cure you. [$]
Here is the url again, so you may click on it if you've deleted Sophia's email:

compulsory music post #3

I want to yell it from the rooftops! I love The Thrills!

It's been ages since my last music post, and things have slightly changed since the last time I posted (perhaps sometime in October?)

Here is the stuff on high rotation on my iTunes
  • Cut Copy - Bright Like Neon Love
  • Ministry of Sound The Annual 2006
  • Kayne West - Late Registration
  • Art Brut - Art Brut
  • Scissor Sisters - Scissor Sisters
  • ... and of course The Thrills - So Much For the City

So my taste has diversified somewhat into dance, and hip hop. But really Kayne West is as far as I would go into hip hop. I also only like a few tracks on Ministry of Sound, my favourite tracks are a bit more laidback, rock-y dance (Martin Solveig 'Everybody'). I blame the Presets for my taste going into dance!

Also, how hilarious is Art Brut?!
"I can't stand the sound of the Velvet Underground ..."
    "scooters, just very FAST scooters"
"I've seen her naked twice, I've seen her naked TWICE!"

Hahahaha ... and currently the song with the highest play count on my iTunes is Cut Copy - Zap Zap

I should have SO bought that t-shirt at Big Day Out!

I had to do a maths test in my job interview!

Gosh, I haven't done fractions in forever!

Admittedly, this was for a job at a tutoring college. The test showed me simple things - I can't remember how to do fractions, long division, I even had qualms about simple multiplication etc. I haven't done maths since frickin' high school, and my last test was two years ago for History Extension HSC.

So, I wasn't prepared. I thought it would be a nice sit-down interview, 'what are your strengths blah blah blah', 'are you good working with kids?'

    A maths test?!

You know I was allowed to use a calculator in the HSC!

But, I miraculously got the job. How's that for dumb (and I mean that literally) luck?

captain spurgeon dies ... and other tales of my mother's bad luck

RIP Lotte, Maxine, Craig, McMurphy and Captain Spurgeon.

My mother is now convinced she's bad luck. We were out for a walk and she crossed the road, and bam! A truck smashed into the back of a parked car.

I've convinced my mother to lock herself up in a room for the next few days, and i've promised her meals every six hours.

guys are such simple creatures #2

(Donna) live captain spurgeon! live! says: (6:06:04 PM)
i don't even like it when at parties, two girls kiss for the guys' attention.

    Don Chan says: (6:06:27 PM)
    oh

    Don Chan says: (6:06:40 PM)
can you invite me to the next party?

    Don Chan says: (6:06:46 PM)
    i haven't seen that before

    Don Chan says: (6:07:02 PM)
and maybe i could learn something from it

    fish update

    Craig is dead.
    Maxine is dead.
    Lotte is dead.
    McMurphy is dead.

Only Captain Spurgeon remains! But he's content with sitting at the bottom of the tank and not really doing anything. Is that healthy?

    goldfish massacre

My mother changed the water in our goldfish 'tank' and the next morning all ten of the fish were dead. They floated to the top, their bloated bellies facing the sky. The morning was very sombre, with a burial being held under the lemon tree.

Then we went out shopping, and did what people usually do when their fish have died. We bought new ones AND a new tank. And we got advice from the aquarium people about how to keep fish alive. And a story from the lady at the butcher about how she's a goldfish murderer as well. My mother intensely listened, empathised, and resolved not to kill these new ones.

When we got home Dad yelled blue murder at Mum for 'wasting money' and threatened to flush all the new fish down the toilet.

So, the fun part of today was naming the goldfish.
  • The dark, small one is McMurphy (Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest) because right after the assistant took him out of the tank, he tried to committ suicide by jumping out of the bucket.
  • The golden one with white spots, the 'Comet' goldfish, is Captain Spurgeon, as named after Robert Duvall's character in that awful film 'Deep Impact'. But only because the Spurgeon's nickname in the film was 'Fish'.
  • The last three are of the same breed and look similar but they have slightly different colouring. The gold one with black patches is Craig, the white one is Maxine, and the white one with black lines across the fins is Lotte. I thought the Three Musketeers would be a little boring, so I chose the three main characters in the cult of Malkovich.

    Fingers (fins?) crossed they survive!

    miss keya's 19th birthday shindig

First of all, Keya if you're reading this, you have a NICE place. Only a few of the uni people turned up - Merry Mary, Dazza, Anna Banana, Miss Indako, & Joely which I must say I was disappointed with. Where's the effort guys? Blergh. Actually, we are arts students after all, what am I saying?! Oh, and of course the lovely Zana was there with her camera - I just hope they don't turn out as bad as Dodd's photos.

Halfway through the night, Mary took me and Daz out on a little trip to her disadvantaged school. She was the best tour guide and pointed out to use the high metal fences, the 'sound' walls, the security camera, the ugly metal sculptures, and the bridge built specially for easier access to Maccas.
    * Daz "Oh, I can feel my intelligence dropping already!"
    * Me "The exit is so carefully concealed so if you can't work out how to get out, you have to stay and learn."
    * Daz "Geez, it looks like a bloody detention centre!"
    * Me "The sound walls are to keep the UAIs in"

Ugh, I feel so bad reading over that now. We so mean :(

Anyways, here are my calls for the night:
  • Misty who hates Mary
  • Tripping over a shoe in the middle of the pavement. Wtf?
  • Anna "Mary, you're hot now!"
  • I think Mary's hair is very cool now, even if she doesn't agree :)
  • Joel's drunken affection
  • Wipeout: Looks like Malibu, but tastes like shit. Don't try it with lemonade.
  • Merry Mary vs. Daz vs. the iPod

Oh, and also when me and Anna were waiting for our ride, one of the drunk, sleazy guys decides to moon us. Whatever, keep it to yourself, k? And, SHAME on Dazza for encouraging him.
