The election is called! (we think)

At my lunch break at work today, and just read an SMH article declaring that Peter Costello has let slip that the election will be November 24. And Dave Hughes of all people, asked the key question!

But then Costello corrected himself ... implying a more vague timeframe.

I've been hanging for the election to be called. The pain has been enough! I hate all the speculation in the media - everyone knows it's going to be in late November, just tell us already!

And this is the second time Costello has slipped up! First time, he declared that the Question Time (last week I think?) was Parliament's last question time before the election. Another reason I'm not particularly a Costello fan.

I'm ready for the onslaught of political ads, blatant grabs at popularity etc.

And Soph has been suggesting an election party, where we'll be watching the ABC coverage, and also celebrating Soph, Jules and I going away for our very exciting Asia trip!

Hurrah!

please, please let me not be sick

Ok, so I've just come back from seeing the dentist, and I hope I just didn't get a cold.

My dentist clearly was SICK! He was sniffing, and sneezing. With your mouth open for 20 minutes, it's a slightly disconcerting experience!

He had a protective thing over his nose and mouth, and I hope that stopped any water disease-carrying particles getting through.

But the fillings went fine, despite my tooth drill-phobia. And I got my x-ray back and it looks like I won't have to get my wisdom teeth out anytime soon, hurrah! (until they poke through the gum, which could be never)

Anyways, I'm going to dose myself up on honey and lemon tonight, just as a precaution!

The films were really good, but the screening did feel a bit odd, being so short! I guess I'm used to the marathon MAP screenings where there has to be scheduled breaks so people can go to the toilet, eat etc.

It was slightly nerve wracking to see the film projected so HUGE. Sam did warn me that it would seem slower - it did. Sam and David came to me after the screening and apologised for the darkness of the projection, but I didn't mind so much. I guess I was just overwhelmed by the sheer SIZE of the image. It looked good though.

Afterwards we had PIZZA! at Arthur's Pizza. Mmmm, pizza. Then half of us trekked out to the pub for drinks, and the other half went and had sundaes at Mickey's, where apparently they had really terrible service? But good, good sundaes.

After, they joined us at the pub, and interesting conversation ensued involving...

VC week

... for all non-UTS, that's Vice-Chancellor's Week. And we have a faculty non-teaching week as well, because we're Arts students and we work soooo hard. Holllllidayyyys!
I'm working a LOT, and trying to do uni work. I just need some motivation to get started on the assignments.

Was at the train station the other day, and this man was walking on the wrong side of the yellow line.
WOMAN (over loudspeaker): Keep behind the yellow line.
Man continues oblivious, leans over, and spits onto the tracks.
WOMAN: That's right, spit over the tracks.
(Five seconds later)
WOMAN: They invented a thing called tissues, just so you know.

I DESPISE the overly happy loudspeaker man at Cityrail. Sydneysiders just ain't used to it. We're more used to grumpy bus drivers, and train doors that threaten to close on us.

Donated blood yesterday with Leana! Got quite queasy (like last time), but it was alright in the end. I'm ok with the needles now, there's something else that freaks me out more (but I won't blog it, I shouldn't turn people off giving blood!) Do it. Good for the soul.

On Wed, Lam set Keya and I the challenge of incorporating the words "cherry" and "flower" into our discussions in Doco Study tutorial. Double snaps for Keya, because she did both, and the week's topic was a MINING DOCUMENTARY. Me? I'm pathetic and don't contribute.

At work, I've been scrabbling for shifts so I get paid throughout my holidays. I'm off for 7 weeks (140 hours), and guesstimating I'll have 60 hours of annual leave by the time I leave. Which means I need to accrue another 80 hours of time off in lieu (TOIL).

So, first week of holidays I'm working 38 hours, and then the second week I'm working 35 (which means by the end of the two weeks I'll have accrued (in total, I've been doing this for a while) approx 57 hours). Uh-huh, that's right. Holidays are not going to be holidays. Plus my screening and so many 21sts! Busy, busy.

my health ... what is going on?!

I went to the dentist today to get the wisdom tooth situation checked out. Turns out that I ALSO need to get several teeth cleaned and filled, because if I let it go unchecked, I could need a root canal! It's $120 per tooth. And then I probably need to get my wisdom teeth out, which will be $350 per tooth.

I was a bit grumpy at the dentist actually, thinking of how I could balance this cost out against the cost of travel - will be paying off my plane ticket tomorrow! At the dentist, I was pleading my case, saying "I'm a student, I can't afford this now!"

Also, Soph, Jules and I have to get vaccinated for our trip against:

Hepatitis A ($88)

Typhoid fever ($52)

Hepatitis B ($27) - although this is only transmitted through blood or sexually, if you were in a car accident etc it would be helpful.

Tetanus ($10) - only if you haven't had the injection in the last 10 years. (Have I?)

Malaria - get a prescription for tablets, Doxycycline.

And get Gardasil, as I've mentioned before. And also I think I need to get vaccinated against adolescent diptheria.

And also ... I GOT MY THREADLESS SHIRTS TODAY!

Downloading episodes of Summer Heights and Chaser of the uni computers. The files are 90MB each, and hoping that my download limit at uni is unlimited?

Trying not to incur the wrath of the Equipment Store. They control the bookings! They control everything!

Bought some gorgeous new flats (slightly small but they didn't have my size!). Now wearing them around the house, trying to get them to stretch half a size. It's working ... gradually.

Watched Hairspray and am regretting not taking singing and dancing lessons when I was younger (come to think about it, I don't think they would have helped much either)

I finished producing Mary's shoot! All the stories are on Facebook, so friends can read them and blog stalkers can't. Now we enter the dark, dingy world of editing - i.e.: rooms with no windows.

Going to be posting up the "Scottish" version of Mary's film up on YouTube soon!

Finished helping out of Stef's shoot where I was an unusual mish-mash of continuity/art dept assist/camera sheet bitch and 1st AD. Congrats Stef on wrapping, woo hoo!

Going to pay off my trip soon and going to go get vaccinated against various diseases before I go overseas (Hep A, Hep B, Tetanus, Malaria (I think).

And Gardasil.

At work, trying desperately to accrue TOIL (time off in lieu) because I don't have enough annual leave to cover me whilst I'll be away on holiday!

On the train the other day, I was in a carriage with a guy sitting on the floor of the carriage playing the guitar and balancing another guitar on his forehead WHILE THE TRAIN WAS MOVING. Yikes.

Ok, onto the main part of the post. I was driving Iz and Andra to a test shoot at Mary's on Wednesday in my PARENT'S car. So, I was trying to be very good, keeping to the speed limit, with the thought in the back of my mind that my parents would kill me if so as much dented it.

We're going down Roberts Rd, when this four-wheel drive going the other way, suddenly CROSSES the median strip, onto the wrong side of the road, and starts heading straight towards me!

I pretty much hit the brakes, and change lanes as quickly as possible. Iz told me later that the people in the car were LAUGHING.

Happy Father's Day. I'm taking my Dad out to go see The Bourne Ultimatum tonight. Not my choice of film, his.

I really, really want to go see Home Song Stories and The Simpsons Movie, and also maybe The Jammed. If anyone wants to go, let me know. I'll be relatively free after Mary's shoot, say about 10th of September onwards.
