Went to Rocking for Rights, the anti-WorkChoices rally and concert, on Sunday with my friendly CPSU member, Soph, to whom I pay $7.60 every fortnight. I have a feeling since I've gone 'backfill' part-time I'm supposed to pay more ... hmmm. The turnout for the rally was massive, the CFMEU and AMWU having incredible numbers.
Soph and I marched next to the Socialist Alliance, and if you want to be really gung-ho in a rally, march next to these guys. They come with loudspeakers and drums, and were chanting "Vote Rudd!", though I think Rudd is a little too Right for these guys.

The march was great, the concert not so. It felt a bit flat and there wasn't any particular band I wanted to see. The sound was pretty crap too, with some of the speakers on like a 1/2 sec delay. There was some lady singing a song called, as far as Soph and I could make out, the Maroubra Stomp?!
The high point though was Tim Brunero and Charles Firth giving out Joe Hockey's phone number. Hee hee. I sent a text and it went through! We also ran into Emma, Bina, Hannah and co.
Concert was crap, but it was for a good cause, and that made it all worthwhile. I rely on my penalty rates when I do the frickin night shifts that go until 2:30AM, I better be getting penalties!

Speaking of Tim, brings me to this year's Big Brother. Not impressed. Why do they all look like members of Hi-5? I'm waiting for the day they stick a Catholic and a Satanist in the same house ... now, that would be interesting TV.

Although I watched a bit last night and they have this 'white' room where they've stuck four people in, and the last to leave gets the 'privilege' (hmmm...) of being a BB contestant in the house. Now, everything in this room is WHITE. You can choose to leave if you press the big red button in the middle of the room.
I love the cabin fever element of it, where you watch these four people slowly going insane ... the frickin whiteness of the room would really grate on my nerves. Good TV.

Of all the days I decide to take public transport to Fox Studios, the rain decides to bucket down. The bad thing about Moore Park is that it's very open, and the gutters are very deep. And I had one little umbrella!
I got SPLASHED, like this huge sheet of water coming at me! So, I got off the pavement, decided to cross through the park and stepped in I don't know how many muddy puddles.
I finally got to Shark Island's office, the people I'm doing some transcribing for, and I'm dripping over their carpet. My socks and sneakers are soaked, jeans are drenched, and I'm just a mess.
Hilary still needs to do some tapes for me, so she suggests I head out to the Entertainment Quarter to buy some dry things. I buy some thongs, and change out of my shoes ... I can't STAND wet socks and shoes. Urgh.
I decide not to buy dry clothes as yet, as I still have to trek back out to Anzac Parade, and I might as well wait it out til I get back to the city, then go and buy some new, dry things.
I get the tapes, leave, and it's only sprinkling. Good right? 10 seconds after I'm out of the gate, the rain starts to hammer down, worse than before. Why does that always happen?!
I have a horrible time trudging through the park again, dodging horse shit, a worse time waiting for the fricking pedestrian lights to change on Anzac Parade. I get to the bus stop, and I get splashed again, only this time it soaks me from head to toe!

I flag down the first bus, not caring where it's going ... JUST GET ME OUT OF HERE. While on the bus, rainwater is running down my jeans and pooling at my feet.
I end up at Town Hall, and I just RAN into a clothes store and changed. I ended up with a sweater, cargo pants (which are a bit too tight now I realise, but I didn't care much at the time. It was more like, they fit? Good!) and a dark blue trench coat. Although my money may have been better spent on a bizarre UFO Cap (see pic).
And I still needed to get to Andy's place in Glebe at 7PM to pick up Glory DVDs, which I need to send off to some festivals today. So, it was back onto the bus, and I did get a bit soaked. I got there, he wasn't home yet, but his housemates are the LOVELIEST people in the world. They got me peppermint tea and a heater, and Ruby, Chris' dog, came and sat on my lap for a while. The heater was gooood ... and Ruby hogged it for a while, but I love Ruby to bits, so no resentment there.
My parents offered to pick me up from Andy's and it was good that they did. I don't know whether I could have faced waiting at the bus stop again.
